Xplor Fuego - Where Adventure Awaits!

If you're staying in Cancun or Riviera Maya and want to experience something fun outside the resort without losing and entire day, Xplor Fuego may be a great option for you. This is basically an adventure theme park with five different activities to enjoy. You arrive at about 5:30pm (your transport time will depend on how far away your hotel is, ours was about an hour each way). Once you check in and receive your equipment (helmet, locker key, etc.) you proceed to the locker room to store your valuables (note: there is a lot of walking but it’s through beautiful underground caves). It is suggested that you take a change of clothes because you will get wet, you should also take a towel to dry off as they are not provided. I’d also suggest that you eat something right before your departure as the activities require some fuel to get you through.

Now – you can complete the circuit however you wish but based on my recent experience, this is what I suggest:

  1. Skip or start with the rafts. It was everyone in our group (12ppl) least favorite activity so I actually suggest that you skip it but if you want to see what it’s about, then do it first and get it out of the way. You will get wet and your arms will get tired because you have to physically paddle the raft through the caves.
  2. Once the rafts are done you’ll want a quick shot of adrenaline to get you excited about the park again. Therefore I suggest the hammock zip-line. This is the perfect activity for anyone – even those who don’t think they want to do zip lines. It’s only two lines, they are not high, not long and they are all over water. It’s a quick activity, taking less than 10 minutes and super fun.
  3. Now that you’re already soaking wet from the hammock zip line and have had a rest from the rafts, it’s time for the river swim/float. There are two circuits, a 5 minute one and a 25 minutes one. This is because you’re responsible for paddling yourself (no raft) through the water. However you’re wearing a life jacket that gives you automatic buouncy and really you can exert as little or much energy as you want to complete the circuit. I suggest doing the 25 minute one because there are 4 “emergency exit” spots where you can get off if you cannot complete the full circuit.
  4. Now you’re wet and hungry but it’s time for another adrenaline rush – the full zip line circuit! This is the last “wet” activity and while you may be in a line to get started, it goes very quick after the first “line”. We completed the circuit in about 25 minutes (7 lines) and it was awesome to do it over the dark jungle. This activity was everyone’s favorite.
  5. Now it’s time to dry off in the locker rooms, shower (your choice) and change into some dry clothes.
  6. Next stop – the full buffet. Xplor doesn’t disappoint in the food and drink selection and you’ll likely be famished by this point.
  7. After you’ve eaten it’s time for one the dry activity: the amphibious vehicles. Take a drive along the circuit and enjoy the adventure while seated and taking multiple photos.
  8. Bonus – The bonfire. You did it! If you still have time go to the bonfire to hang out and congratulate yourself on a job well done.

*Please note that Xplor Fuego is NOT childfree and allows children 7 years and older to enjoy the park but we saw younger children during our night there.
